Funded by: Bolton’s Fund

Purpose:

The Baby Essentials project was launched to support parents of newborns who were experiencing financial hardship. Many of the families we work with face difficult circumstances such as homelessness, asylum claims, low income, or unemployment, all of which can make the early stages of parenthood even more challenging. The project aimed to reduce stress for new parents by providing practical, essential items for babies under 12 months old.

What We Provided:

Each parcel was tailored to the baby’s age and the family’s individual needs. Items included:

  • Nappies and baby wipes
  • Baby formula and bottles
  • Clothing and blankets
  • Baby hygiene products
  • Other essentials such as bibs and vests

How It Worked:

Applications were open to families with babies under 12 months old. Referrals were accepted from professionals such as health visitors, social workers, and midwives. All applicants were required to provide supporting evidence of need.

Impact & Benefits:

  • Supported over 80 vulnerable families during the winter months
  • Reduced financial pressure on low-income households at a crucial life stage
  • Improved infant wellbeing by ensuring access to clean, age-appropriate supplies
  • Strengthened partnerships with local health and welfare professionals
  • Promoted dignity and confidence for struggling parents

This project reflects Crescent Food Bank’s ongoing commitment to supporting families beyond food parcels providing the right help at the right time.
