Duke of Edinburgh Award Volunteering
Crescent Food Bank supports young people completing the volunteering section of their Duke of Edinburgh Award by providing structured volunteering opportunities within our Sunday food bank operation.
DofE volunteering is managed separately from our general volunteer programme and has its own attendance, communication and referral arrangements.
Who Can Take Part?
Our Duke of Edinburgh volunteering programme is available to students who have been referred through their school or educational provider.
Places are limited because of the size of our premises and the number of volunteers we can safely accommodate at each session.
Sunday Volunteering Sessions
DofE volunteering sessions take place on Sundays from 9:45am to 11:45am.
Students normally volunteer as part of a rota and may attend approximately every two weeks, depending on the group they have been allocated to.
During their volunteering, students may help with:
- Preparing and packing food parcels
- Sorting donated and surplus food
- Organising stock and essential items
- Preparing the food bank before opening
- Supporting volunteers during the Sunday session
Attendance & Communication
Regular attendance is important in order to complete the required volunteering hours for the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Students and parents should respond to availability messages and inform us as early as possible if a student is unable to attend an allocated session.
Schools and educational providers may contact Crescent Food Bank for attendance updates. Where requested, we will provide an accurate record of attendance and any missed sessions.
Completing Your DofE Assessment
Once the required volunteering hours have been completed, students should let us know if they require Crescent Food Bank to complete their online DofE assessor report.
We will check the request against our attendance records before completing the assessment.
