Funded by: Bolton’s Fund

Purpose:

This project was designed to support families facing financial hardship by helping them meet the cost of compulsory school uniform items. With the rising cost of living, many parents were struggling to afford appropriate clothing for their children to attend school confidently and comfortably. The aim was to ease this burden and help children start or continue school without barriers.

What We Provided:

Families received assistance tailored to their specific needs, which included:

  • School shirts, trousers, skirts, and jumpers
  • School shoes and PE kits
  • Coats, bags, and seasonal items where required
Support was prioritised for families with children of primary or secondary school age.

How It Worked:

Applications were made through an online form with supporting evidence required. Referrals were accepted from schools, welfare teams, and community partners who identified families in need.

Impact & Benefits:

  • 77 families supported across Bolton with essential school clothing
  • Reduced financial stress for low-income households at the start of a new school term
  • Improved attendance and engagement by ensuring children had the correct uniform
  • Helped children feel included, confident, and ready to learn
  • Strengthened Crescent Food Bank’s partnership with local schools and welfare professionals

This project highlighted the importance of practical support for children’s education and ensured financial hardship did not prevent a child from attending school with dignity.
